R-Phycoerythrin (R-PE) is a fluorescent protein from the phycobiliprotein family, and is isolated from cyanobacteria, red algae and cryptomonads. The absorbance spectrum of R-PE covers a broad range of excitation wavelengths, which provides an advantage for multi-color immunofluorescent staining or cell sorting. R-PE is one of the most intensely fluorescent phycobiliprotein having orange fluorescence. It is significantly brighter and more photostable than conventional organic fluorophores and it has a high quantum yield. It has a strong absorption peak at 565 nm, and a secondary absorption peak at 492 nm. The emission peak is at 575. The amount of antibody used for labeling should be the same as the pack size of LL-R-PE. For any new antibody, optimization of the ratio of antibody to dye is often worthwhile.
