Description
Isolate and identify Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli from clinical specimens using blood-free Thermo Scientific™ Karmali Selective Agar.
Based on the formulation described by Karmali, this formulation is supplemented with vancomycin to inhibit the growth of Gram-positive organisms. Campylobacter growth is recognized as shiny grey colonies.
Campylobacter infections are among the most common bacterial infections, producing both gastrointestinal and systemic illnesses. Campylobacter jejuni is the most commonly reported bacterial cause of foodborne infection in the United States. Campylobacter are small, non-sporeforming, helical, curved gram-negative rods that require a microaerophilic environment and cannot tolerate drying.
