Invitrogen™ HIN-1 Polyclonal Antibody, Invitrogen™
Description
HIN-1, also known as High In Normal-1 or Secretoglobin Family 3A Member 1 (SCGB3A1), is a gene located on chromosome 5q33.3. It encodes a protein that is predominantly expressed in normal mammary epithelial cells and is thought to function in epithelial cell signaling, contributing to cellular differentiation and maintaining normal tissue architecture. The HIN-1 gene is often silenced or downregulated in various cancers, particularly breast cancer, due to hypermethylation of its promoter region, suggesting a potential tumor suppressor role. Loss of HIN-1 expression has been implicated in the progression of malignancies by disrupting normal cell signaling pathways, thereby facilitating oncogenesis. Given its significant downregulation in cancerous tissues, HIN-1 is being explored as a biomarker for early cancer detection and may provide insights into novel therapeutic strategies that aim to restore its expression and normal cellular functions.
