Composed of the base cytosine linked to the five-carbon sugar d-ribose. Cytidine, MP Biomedicals is a pyrimidine nucleoside with a variety of analogs that display potentially useful pharmacology.

Cytidine, when intraperitoneal administered in combination with choline, improves nerve regeneration and functional recovery in a rat model of sciatic nerve injury. It is also used as an ex vivo drug selectable marker in gene-modified primary bone marrow stromal cells for cytidine deaminase assay.
