Cloxacillin binds to certain penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which results in cell lysis. Cell lysis is mediated by bacterial cell wall autolytic enzymes. It may interfere with autolysin inhibitors. Cloxacillin has many antibiotic uses:

  • To treat infections caused by penicillin G-resistant staphylococci
  • In studies of the use of topical antibacterial agents for burn and crush wounds
  • As an AmpC β-lactamase inhibitor in combination with β-lactam antibiotics
