Identify urinary pathogens clearly and accurately with selective Thermo Scientific™ CLED Medium / MacConkey Agar No. 3 bi-plates.

Identify urinary tract pathogens clearly and accurately using Thermo Scientific™ CLED Agar / MacConkey Agar No. 3 combination bi-plates. CLED (Cysteine Lactose Electrolyte Deficient) Agar provides a valuable non-inhibitory diagnostic agar with good colonial differentiation and clear diagnostic characteristics. Detect the presence of Enterobacteriaceae with selective MacConkey Agar No. 3 while inhibiting Gram-positives.

The bi-plate combination of CLED Agar and MacConkey Agar No. 3 will help to specifically identify the relevant pathogens involved in urinary tract infections (UTI).

  • Isolate, enumerate and presumptively identify common UTI related microorganisms
  • Identify the degree of sample contamination
  • Improved differentiation between coliforms and lactose and non-lactose fermenters
  • Ready-to-use convenience of prepared media

Non-selective CLED Agar supports the growth of common urinary pathogens and provides good colonial differentiation with clear diagnostic characteristics. It is electrolyte deficient to prevent the swarming of Proteus spp. The presence of important contaminants, such as diphtheroids, lactobacilli and micrococci is also clearly elicited, giving an indication of the degree of contamination.

MacConkey Agar No. 3 is a highly selective medium suitable for detection and isolation of Enterobacteriaceae occurring in urinary tract infections. Due to the inclusion of a specially prepared fraction of bile salts, in addition to crystal violet, the medium gives improved differentiation between coliforms and non-lactose fermenting organisms while Gram-positive cocci are completely inhibited.
