Description
Boric acid has a single boron; its salt forms complex equilibria in solution, with the ion B4O7-2 being the predominant species. Manufacturing and industrial uses include: for weatherproofing wood and fireproofing fabrics; as a preservative; manufacturing of cements, crockery, porcelain, enamels, glass, borates, leather, carpets, hats, soaps, artificial gems; in nickeling baths; cosmetics; printing and dyeing, painting; photography; for impregnating wicks; electric condensers; hardening steel. It is also used as an insecticide for cockroaches and black carpet beetles.
